Watches: History And Best Brands

Watches have always been one of the things that most people can’t just live without. And that popularity is due not only to their utilitarian purposes, but also because of the sentimental values that watches sometimes hold for their wearers. Watches are also considered as fashion accessories, and personal taste factors a lot in the equation when people choose them.

Right now, men’s watches and women’s watches adorn almost everybody’s wrists that going out without them is almost a reason for panic. Indeed, for their usefulness when it comes to telling what time it is and for their ability to add a little bit of glamour to people’s outfits, a lot of us would feel that we are not properly dressed when we don’t have a watch around our wrist.

The History Of Watches
Timekeeping began even before mankind had developed systemic ways of keeping records. The cavemen relied on the position of the sun and the slanting shadows to chart their activities and plans for the day. Later, when astronomy was invented, the sun stopped being the sole consideration for telling the time. The Zodiac, too, started out as a way of timekeeping.

The first clock that was ever invented was created back in the 1500s. Over time, it got small enough to make wearing it attached to a chain or on a belt. But, that early watch was shaped like an egg and still too big to wrap around a person’s wrist.

Watches went through a lot of modifications and designs before people had the honor of having today’s type of watches. But, that does not mean that all the redesigning and redoing have stopped. Until now, watch designers are looking for more ways to bring people the best that they can ever have, like the following.

The Best Watch Brands
Patek Philippe. Patek Philippe has been in the business since the 19th century. In fact, this company has even been the personal choice of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The history that surrounds the Patek Philippe brand has long been established, and people buy its watches for the long-term usefulness, and the long-term dedication that has been given by the company to the industry of making men’s watches and women’s watches.

A. Lange & Söhne. This German maker of men’s watches and women’s watches is considered as one of the best watch makers in the whole world. A. Lange & Söhne’s name is always ranked with Patek Philippe. The watches from this company are termed as ‘very unique’ and they also provide refreshing differences from the Swiss watches.

Tiffany & Co. And Its History

Tiffany & Co. has long since established itself as the leading source of designer jewellery – not only in the United States – but all over the world. Receiving a blue box from Tiffany is almost a prerequisite to thinking that you are the luckiest person in the whole world. That’s because everybody knows that what Tiffany sells costs quite a pretty amount of money. So, being presented with a piece of silver or gold jewellery from the company means that the gift presenter has just done something truly remarkable.

The History Of Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany & Co. started as Tiffany & Young back in September 1837 with Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young. The store rocketed to popularity and patronisation when it denied requests of negotiation and haggling when it comes to the trinkets and lovely things that they have on their window cases. The quality of the products that they sold was enough to explain the hefty price that the company was asking.

Tiffany & Young became Tiffany & Co. in 1853. Since then, Tiffany has gone on to prove that it is not just another jewellery store. During the Civil War in America, Tiffany supplied the Union Army with surgical instruments, swords and other army supplies. It has also been granted the honour of redesigning the Great Seal of the United States of America in 1885. In addition, the decision to use ‘carat’ as the standard unit of measurement for precious gems was actively participated in by Tiffany’s chief gemologist.

Tiffany & Co. shot to more popularity when the movie ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ was released. The movie was shot at Tiffany’s own store in New York, and captivated so many with not only the story line, but the amazing pieces of high-end jewellery that were shown.

Classic Pieces From Tiffany & Co.
If it’s up to women, every Tiffany jewellery is deserving of a lifetime’s worth of attention, care and love. But, over time, the jewellery pieces that have gathered the most attention from people are as follows:

Double Wave Necklace. Tiffany’s Double Wave necklace is a combination of pearl and diamonds. Lots and lots of diamonds. The South Sea pearls are strung together by two lines of platinum and round diamonds. This is offered at £38548.75 or $59,500.

Elsa Peretti Teardrop Earrings. Although this pair of earrings is priced at a smashing 275 dollars, the money that it’s asking for is certainly less than the happiness that it would give to the buyer. One of the most stylish pair of earrings ever wrought, the silver teardrop earrings can captivate anybody’s heart.

Charm Your Life With Charm Bracelets

In a world where most people consider charms and lucky stones as very nice shields against the misfortunes of the world and of life. That is the reason why charm bracelets are becoming so popular. As they are believed to safeguard you from whatever bad thing that could come your way, they get patronised. Quite right, too, for charm bracelets and charms have successfully established that wearing them will indeed protect you, and more.

Why Charm Bracelets Are So Popular
They serve as amulets. Charms dot a charms bracelet, and people have used them (since the beginning of time) to keep evil things or spirits at bay. This spiritual perception of charms has carried over to this generation. People today wear charm bracelets because they uphold this ancient belief.

They symbolise personal milestones. Charm bracelets like the pandora bracelet, the chamilia bracelet, the truth bracelet and others can function as mementos of what the wearer has achieved so far. Since those bracelets can be designed according to how the wearer wants them to look like, they can be customised and personalised so much to the point that they can truly represent who the wearer is, and what he or she is all about.

The Most Popular Charm Bracelets
There are, so far, three types of charm bracelets which have been getting a lot of attention. Though a lot of charm bracelets have been getting recognition, the following three kinds of charm bracelets are usually the top three choices:

Pandora Bracelets. Pandora bracelets are very well-known for their versatility and easy customisability. They contain precious gems or semi-precious stones and are available in silver, gold or glass. The beads of the Pandora bracelets can be interchanged, and they can be replaced.

Chamilia Bracelets. Like Pandora bracelets, Chamilia bracelets can be customised according to the wants and wishes of the wearer. But, Chamilia bracelets are set in more materials than Pandora bracelets. They feature gold, silver, Murano glass, Swarovski crystals and coloured stones. There are beads that are also exclusive to Chamilia, like the Disney beads.

Truth Bracelets. Truth bracelets are steeped in simple elegance. Their classic design and clean styling make them very nice gift choices because whoever receives a Truth bracelet will definitely enjoy it. Also, Truth bracelets come in several variations and models. They are designed using gold, mother-of-pearl, silver, steel and others. Truth bracelets were once considered as bringers of powers and magic, in the ancient times.

Birthstones: Lists And Meanings

Birthstones are precious stones that hold significant meaning for a person’s birth month, based on the Gregorian calendar. They compose twelve precious stones or gems that each corresponds to a certain month of birth.

The establishment of the birthstones and the birthstone list is said to be rooted in the Bible. In the book of the Revelations, the twelve stones of birth were mentioned and connected to the twelve founding stones of the New Jerusalem. Since then, the birthstone list has been formulated to guide people to finding the special birthstone that represents everything about their months of birth.

The current birthstone list that the world is using is as follows:

January – Garnet: Garnet is said to represent health, strength, perseverance and prosperity.

February – Amethyst: This birthstone symbolises sobriety, spirituality, security and wisdom.

March – Aquamarine: Happiness, loyalty, honesty and beauty are the key traits that aquamarine stands for.

April – Diamond: Diamond corresponds to purity, invincibility, eternal love and clarity.

May – Emerald: Emerald is the birthstone that is considered to go for the virtues of foresight, patience and understanding.

June – Pearl: Pearl speaks for purity, beauty, modesty and happiness.

July – Ruby: Success, passion, love, promise and integrity are the characteristics that are linked to the birthstone ruby.

August – Peridot: Peridot is associated with dignity, fame, success and protection.

September – Sapphire: Commitment, truth, loyalty and sincerity are linked to sapphire.

October – Opal: Opal is related to confidence, hope and faith.

November – Topaz: Courage, along with wisdom and strength, is attributed to this particular birth stone.

December – Turquoise: Windows for more chances at happiness and nice possibilities are opened by turquoise.

However, there are other lists that recognise other types of birthstones. Mystical birthstones are composed of precious stones that are steeped in Tibetan philosophies, and they have been considered as the birthstones of every year for over a thousand years. Another list, called the Ayurdevic birthstones, are founded in ancient Indian medicine and Indian philosophy.

Some people have a problem with the traditional birthstone that has been assigned to them. So, they try to go around this by choosing a different birthstone, or a different colour for their birthstone. Though there are quite a few who frown at this, the important thing is that, by the end of the day, a person can feel that his or her birthstone really speaks for his or her life, and what he or she holds to be true.

All About Pearls

Pearl

If diamonds are considered as a woman’s best friend, then pearls are definitely one of her closest friends. Seen as the best way to look stunning while pure, beautiful while sweet, and gorgeous while nice, pearls can up a woman’s physical looks by a hundred percent. The charm and beauty that a single pair of pearl earrings can lend to the wearer is beyond priceless, and women all over the world have learnt to realise that.

The Making Of Pearls
Pearls are made by shelled mollusks. The colour of the pearl formed depends on the type of mollusk, the position of the product in the shell, the water quality and the genetics of the animal.

Saltwater pearls are produced by inserting a mother-of-pearl bead nucleus (from a clam shell) into the oyster, adding a mantle tissue (epithelial cells of another oyster). The mantle tissue would create a sac around the bead, and the oyster will coat this sac with the pearly substance called nacre.

Freshwater pearls are typically made in the same way. The only exception is that freshwater pearls don’t require a mother-of-pearl nucleus. The freshwater oyster can proceed to producing the nacre, even without the nucleus. One added thing, too, that is possible is that putting a lot of mantle tissues would lead to the production of more freshwater pearls.

The Largest Pearl
The largest pearl that was recorded is the Pearl of Lao Tzu, found in the Philippines in 1934. This pearl is produced by a giant clam. Since it does not come from an oyster, the surface of the Pearl of Lao Tzu is rather porcelain-like. It is not artificially made, it is naturally produced by the giant clam.

The Most Expensive Pearls
Natural pearls are considered to be the priciest pearls in the world. One particular example, the Baroda pearls, were priced at 7 million dollars. But, natural pearls are very rare, and they often end up in the hands of collectors.

Cultured pearls are more numerous. In fact, most of what you would see on any jewelry store display are cultured pearls. South Sea pearls are the most expensive cultured pearls. They’re followed by Tahitian pearls, and they are produced in the French Polynesia. If they’re produced outside of the French Polynesia, those pearls are called black South Seas. Grown (primarily) in Japan, China, South Korea, Vietnam and Australia, the Akoya pearls are the third most expensive pearls in the world.

The Tradition Behind Engagement Rings And Wedding Rings

Diamond Rings

All women live their lives with the hope of one day finding the perfect man and spending the rest of eternity with him. That package does not miss out on the necessity of engagement rings or wedding rings. All women have faith in a happily ever after, and there’s nothing that defines that as wonderfully as an engagement (and ultimately, a wedding) can.

Engagement rings and wedding rings are material possessions that hold so much emotional values for those who have been lucky enough to wear them. They symbolise all the good things about life, and all the promises that deep and strong love could easily fulfil. The giving of those important rings dates back to the earlier years. So, it is truly a gift that such precious traditions have been consistently passed on from one generation to the next, until today.

The Tradition And History Of Ring-Giving
Engagement rings and wedding rings or wedding bands have quite a lengthy history. The following sums up how these wonderful things have been treated by people from an earlier time.

Egyptians
The now-famous shape and placement of engagement rings and wedding rings are said to have started with the Egyptians. They believed that the fourth left finger has a vein that directly connects the finger to the heart. To this day, engagement rings and wedding bands are still worn on the person’s fourth finger, on his or her left hand.

Romans
The circular shape of the rings and their position on people’s fingers that the Egyptians believed in hold true for the Romans. However, the Romans considered giving rings as a symbol of ownership of the person. They claim their partners by giving them wedding or engagement rings.

Asians
In ancient times, puzzle rings were used as wedding bands in Asia. These puzzle rings can be dismantled and put back together, if you know how to. These rings made it easier for husbands who need to leave to check on their wives while they were away. Disloyalty and infidelity would be evident since the ring would break up if it has been removed, and can only be reconstructed by someone who knows how.

Europeans
Earlier Europeans gave what was called a Poesy ring to their loved ones. Much like today’s engagement rings, Poesy rings were given to symbolise a couple’s forever bliss.

Greeks
The modern-day engagement ring has been fashioned predominantly after the Greeks’ use of the rings. They gave them before marriage, and as a sign of soon-to-be-married happiness.

The Mechanics of Gold Price

Jewelry is a possession that many find so addictive. Quite right, too, because there’s nothing that adds luster to a person’s life quite as jewelry can. Gold is one of the examples of the many kinds of this wonderful creation of humanity. However, though it is highly valued, gold can not be easily possessed. And this is because the price of gold is not something that can be satisfied easily.

What Affects The Price of Gold
Gold continues to be one of the most stable standards of wealth. That, in itself, is already enough of a reason for gold to be difficult – when it comes to buying or purchasing it. Other things, though, play a role in determining gold price.

The price of gold depends on three things: market conditions, the demand for gold and market fundamentals.

Market Conditions: Economic conditions affect how gold price rises or falls. It rises during low-inflation times, high-inflation (or hyperinflation) times and crises. The ‘hardness’ of the times predispose some humans’ desire to back their assets up in gold. As a result, gold price steadily increases.

Demand for Gold: As with anything that is governed by the laws of economics, the price of gold is dependent on the number of people (or the number of wants) that desire for it. The gold price is directly connected to the demand for the product. So, if the demand is high, the price of gold is also high.

Market Fundamentals: Supply, demand and the weakness of paper currencies all touch the price of gold. Supply and demand team up to set the price of this particular jewellery source. The state of a nation’s paper currency also has an effect on the price of gold. For example, if too much paper money is being printed (as a response to the weakening state of the economy), the value of the currency would invariably lower.

Why Gold Prices Are So High
Gold is considered by some people to be the best indicator of a person’s fortune. Since the dawn of time, mankind has already been actively participating in the myriad ways that gold can be used to improve a person’s life. Until now, gold continues to be the most dependable marker of people’s wealth.

This is the reason a woman would feel more than honoured if she receives a gold jewellery as a present. It is inherent that gold fetches quite a price, and when it is given as a token of someone’s love (in the form of a jewellery), love and care are immediately given to the giver.
