If you’re thinking about redesigning your home – what’s the logical place to start? Do you start with design ideas you’ve seen in magazines or perhaps on the internet, for example? This may seem logical, but it isn’t really. You see, it’s the same principle as buying clothes. I’m sure we all know people who continually buy clothes in an attempt to keep up with latest trends and fashions. Perhaps they even change their car regularly for the same reason.
Then there are those people who always seem happy and relaxed in the clothes they wear, the car they drive and, yes, the home they’re in – seemingly unaffected by whatever the world around them looks like or thinks.
When you see and meet such people, they often seem slightly different from the rest; they have an inner contentment which seems to shine through to their lifestyle choices as well.
It’s a bit like the saying that true beauty comes from within; the same principle. The key to this success is that such people are driven from within rather than from without – and that is the biggest single clue to interior design success. If you really want to feel happy and settled in your own home and to love its interior décor and furnishings – then first decide what it is you truly love and try and do so free of all eternal influences.
In this way, you’re being true to yourself. Once you’ve been through this meditative process, then yes it’s worth looking around for examples of a table and chairs, a sofa, a bed, a kitchen design etc., that really fits with your true inner self. But to put the imagery and the “shop” first is dangerous as you may be easily led into areas not in tune with your true self – and then you will never really feel settled.
Decide who you are, what you love, what feels right for you – then get the best bargains you can find at places like Harveys furniture or other inspirational websites.
